Dear Dot & Ivan
We received your very nice letter yesterday
and it made us very happy to hear that
everything is fine. I remember how worried
you were and it reallly was so unnecessary.
I wish I could have been there with you
when you landed, because I love things
that are romantic. I can just picture
it in my mind and it must have
made you feel very happy to see Ivan
standing there.
Well, there was quite a mixup after you left.
Marjie left the children with me while she
went to get her car. Ed. left to get ours
and of course he was the first one back,
well, we waited and waited, but she didn't
show up and then we remembered that she
had lost her purse and that meant she
couldn't take the car out of the parking lot
because you have to pay as you leave the
lot, so Ed. drove us to the lot and went
looking for her but couldn't find her..
so back we went to the Airport, still no Marjie,
back we went to lot #6, Ed. took Chris with
him, but they couldn't find her, back we went
-2-
to the Airport so Ed. could call the house,
and while he was phoning I saw a man
who looked like Gene going upstairs, but, I
said to myself it couldn't be him because
he would be a La Guardia, well, to my
surprise Ed comes along a few minutes later
and there was Gene who had come in on a
TWA plane that he caught by the skin of his
teeth. He had a hectic time of it, too, because
he and the fellow he was with had to run like
mad to [call struck out] catch the plane because it was about
ready to leave.
In the meantime Marj. had gone home. She
found her purse where it had fallen [strike-out] as
she got out of the car and it was fortunate
that the car next to hers was still there
so nobody spotted the purse.
While we were at the door waiting for you
to get on the plane Gene was at Idlewild in
the phone booth calling La Guardia trying to
get in touch with Marj. He didn't know
it but the phone he was dialing was out of
order so he went in the next one and the
operator kept saying what can I do for you,
honey, well, he finally got the house but
no answer, so he called Spencer and he said
Marj. was at La Guardia. After a few more
calls he finally got Marj at home, then he
-3-
thought that maybe your plane was delayed
so he went to the [Illegible] desk and they said
your plane had left on time and that
was when Ed. spotted him walking past the
booth. The children were wild with joy when
they saw him.
When we reached Gene's house Marj. was
just going to go to Idlewild to get Gene. She
was angry at Ed. and he was angry at her
but nothing was said. I felt sorry for Ed.
because he had to do all the running around,
and I thought she could have waited a little
longer.
It made me happy to hear you could wear
your black skirt and velvet jacket because
you look so pretty in it. Did Ivan like it?
Christine cried quite a lot but she is all right
now. They are all well and we took the
girls to see War of the Worlds Sunday night.
I thought it was a very good picture.
The next day after you left we slept late
as usual and while sitting in the chair
after I had my coffee I found that the
frame that holds the left lens (^of my eye glasses) had broken
and that was the (^last) straw. First I lost the
tooth, then you, and then the glass frame
broke. I just sat there and cried. I guess
-4-
missing you was the greatest reason of
all for the tears. It was the reaction after
having to hold back at the Airport. Seeing
some one you love very much going away
[they struck out with two lines] that person is going away forever.
I hope the house is very pretty and that you
and Ivan will be very happy and prosperous
in it.
We received a letter from Gertz's lawyers and I
called them and explained and everything
is alright. They expect the payment of 73.34 in
three weeks.
Manufacturers returned the $70.00. I called them
and gave them the address on the coast.
Ed. didn't feel too bad about the Series
because he said they made a good showing
in the Series. Gene didn't make fun
of them this time.
Well, dear, this is a long letter and I want to
send it on its way to-night, so, good luck
to you both in your new home, and as Carol
Reed says in Rain or Shine, have a happy.
Your loving,
Mother and Brother Ed.
P.S. - Give my love to Ivan and tell him
I miss him, too.
P.P.S.- Please tell me what dresses out of the
garment bag you want sent in the duffel bag.
P.P.P.S.- You forgot to send the registration for the car
over
